Police inquiry finds Ferozabad DSP responsible for assaulting teenagers
KARACHI: Former DSP Yaqoob Jutt has been declared guilty in an inquiry conducted into the torture incident against three youngsters at the Ferozabad Police Station.
Three teenagers — accused of teasing girls in the Police Lines area — were said to have been tortured by police officials on December 22.
Sources said the report includes statements of over 15 individuals, including the Ferozabad SHO and on-duty policemen.
According to sources, the report has been sent to Sindh Inspector General of Police AD Khawaja and strict action has been recommended against the DSP.
After the Dec 22 incident, the families of the tortured teenagers staged a protest outside the police station.
“Police came and picked us from the house,” one of the tortured teens had stated.
"All 15-20 men were in civilian clothing," he added.
Speaking with reporters at the scene, the mother of one of the teenagers accused the police of brutality. “I screamed and shouted when my son was taken away. I was pushed by the men,” she said.
In a statement to Geo News the same day, Jatt had admitted assaulting the young men after receiving reports that they had teased girls. “They were teasing our girls from Police Lines. I beat up a policeman’s son and two boys,” he commented.
Acting Inspector-General of Police for Sindh Mushtaq Mahar had ordered a report to be submitted and action taken against the policemen if they are found responsible for the torture.
